The Hockey News: The Worst Division in Hockey

8

It's...not ours. At least, not so far. Good on Dixon for recognizing that the Southeast isn't as bad as it once was and the Northeast is probably going to founder this year. Although, I must say that I've been impressed with what I've seen from the Sabres so far and that I think the Buds are better than they're playing at the moment. That Vanek injury is going to hurt them badly though and that's their real problem; they have no depth. Vanek goes down and there's no one else on that roster that's a consistent threat to score. Connolly and Roy are both very skilled players, but neither of them are close to having the finishing ability of Vanek. For their sake, I hope he makes a full recovery and soon. I don't know what the Leaf's bugaboo has been so far, other than their defense having terrible games. It looks like Schenn is hitting his sophomore slump and Beauchemin and Komisarek are significantly underperforming their contracts. That really surprises me in Beauchemin's case, I thought (and still think) that he was a much better player than he's shown. Could it be that playing with Pronger affected his stats and performance that strongly? Matt Carle has looked much better with Elbows, after all.
