ATDHE is not streaming it for some reason. The link above will take you to two streams – this site has been pretty iffy in the past.

On tap for tonight...
Started off with some Brooklyn Oktoberfest, moved to Shipyard Prelude, gonna finish off with some of dad’s home brew stout.

Sometimes I even put some of the wine in what I’m cooking!

Varly needs to practice some. Theo’s been stronger so it’s like last year I guess – go with the hot hand
I disagree I think Theo has looked worse, making mistakes a seasoned veteran has no excuse for….Varly was let down by his D a lot…I dont think the same can be said as much for Theo
Theo bailed out his D on a couple of occasions, too. The stomach save on Gaborik comes to mind readily.

Dude, get yourself an avatar (if you need help in doing so, reference the Welcome Guide). It helps to differentiate you from everyone else in a way that’s not as annoying as numbering your sentences, typing in all caps, etc. There are tons of great examples, but Sombrero Guy’s, ns’s, Wisper’s and Uncle C’s are among my favorites. Just keep it (relatively) clean.

That was a bad play by BMo that was bailed out by Knuble. That was as quick as I’ve seen him skate all season.
by Knee high to a duck on Oct 10, 2009 7:40 PM EDT reply actions
Yup. B-Mo can’t turn the puck over in that situation. Those blue-line turnovers usually end up in the back of the net.

Yeah, but that’s how it’s always gonna be with him. Tonight I’m high on him. Other nights I dream of the defenseman he could bring back. Ehh, I’m just glad I’m not McPhee.
Yeah, but what team that needs Alex Semin is going to trade an elite defenseman?
by Knee high to a duck on Oct 10, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
They haven’t had a problem scoring so far and their average to weak after you get past their top 3. They’d have to have a prospect pan out during the season or we’d need to send someone back with Semin.

I started watching at about the 12:00 mark, but it looked like the Detroit has had the better play so far.

Wow and AO shoots it right back into Osgood. A full fucking net and the best goal scorer shoots it at the goalie.

Green should have shot it – AO could pick up a rebound, maybe. Too damned cute, again.
"You're gonna eat that g**d**n Koho, three!"
I dunno about cute, but you’ve got a guy still figuring out his sticks, and the two-time MVP creeping into the slot calling for the puck.

Out of curiosity, what Red Wing would you most like to have on the Caps?
I would choose Ovechkin because…why the hell not?
For how long? One season? If so, it’s Lidstrom, hands down. That’s not even a question.
Longer, probably Dats.

It’s more of an “in general” thing from where I see it. Basically every game I’ve watched this year (a lot) have had some pretty bad calls by all the men in stripes. At least the calls at the lines don’t have as direct an outcome on the game. Did you think AO was onsides on that last one?

I don’t watch the Caps all that much but when I do I’m usually impressed with Green. He’s played pretty poorly tonight in my opinion and seems clueless with his positioning at times. Odd to see from such a good player

What is Ovie doing there? That play isn’t going to work against this team.

Good play by Ovie to keep that in the zone.

Was that Sloan and Potsy again? I know Sloan was out there. They look like the Erskine/Poti pair from the other night.

Poor stick discipline and not converting their chances. There have been plenty.

Yeah, the penalties on Green and Semin. Those aside I’m not broken up by this one. The third against Toronto was way more worrisome.
Disagree, they took 2 points out of the Toronto game and should have taken two points on the road here. They had enough opportunities to do it. Very frustrated.

Poti blows. How does he let Bert block that shot when he’s got the SOB line controlling the puck in the zone. Ass hat.

Good thing we didn’t have Schultz tonight. We definitely don’t need a good stick in the middle of our zone blocking DET passing. Sloan totally justified that decision.

Can BB PLEASE stop scratching Schultz for guys like Sloan and Erskine? For God’s sake I have no clue what he is thinking with how he is running the D this season.
Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst
Tyler Sloan. Long-term prospects aside, he’s the most likely reassign when Fleischmann comes back.

My 2 cents, for what they’re worth:
It never seemed to me we had a chance to win. Detroit was just better.
We couldn’t get anything going offensively. Even the OV line was having trouble. The other lines were non-existant offensively.
Sloan seemed over matched, but I’m no expert.
Is it me or are refs just calling penalties on the Caps and Semin in particular just out of reputation? That penalty on Green in the 3rd was a joke.
After having seen the NY feed (incrdibly bad and frustrating, totally ruins the game) and the Detroit one (not as bad but also frustrating: “Ovechkin got his bell rung by Filpula”. Yeah, wand he also got the puck.)
Overall this should help us (fan nation) get our head on straight. We’re not there yet. Now let’s see how the players take it.
How is it possible in such a reputable hockey town to distinctively hear on-ice officials and players shouting. That can’t be right.
I doubt if the Caps will be a SC contender this year. They’ll make the playoffs. They have no maneuvering room due to the Nylander contract situation.
As mad as I am, I’ll still go the games. I’ll just be happy if the Penguins do NOT make the Eastern Conference finals.
It’s a little early for that, no?
I still say Nyls is gone by the end of November.
"And next year it will be ours."
GMGM has to be working his tail off for any type of deal. How about Nyls and a second rounder for a a bag of pucks. Anything.

yeah it is way to early to be saying that. Wait till December, and even then is risky, look at the Pens from last year. Their roster is no worse than last year, and with another year of experience, they can go far. As long as they play well, there are no limits on this team.
by hockeyman33 on Oct 10, 2009 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m not sure the Caps could get away with being in 10th place in Feb and then make their run like the Pens of last year. (Granted, they did that in 2007-2008 but then ran out of gas for the playoffs.)
What do the Pens have that we don’t? Is Bylsma really a better coach?
Right now, I think it’s the work ethic. Caps throw stinkers every two or three games. Last year, after two wins or so I expected a loss cause they didn’t give it their all.

I would like to see a Caps Stanley Cup before I die. And preferably while they still have Ovechkin.
I hate to see Ovechkin hoisting the SC with some other team (like, God forbid, the Islanders or Tampa Bay) and the Caps are still cupless.
He is here for another what? at least 11 years? Unless he pulls a Heatly, he will lift the Cup in a Caps uniform.
by hockeyman33 on Oct 10, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Please, I hope you’re right. I hope somewhere in the next 11 years, the Caps can do a Stanley Cup.
(He does have a limited movement clause in the last three of so years of his contract.)
I don’t think he’d pull a Heatley unless things somehow got really bleak for us. Or unless there was a change in management and he wasn’t seeing eye to eye with them.
Yes, that’s true. My office mate is convinced that Boudreau has a few screws loose and is not the right team to take the Caps to the “next level”. He’s got a great opinion of Bylsma as a coach.
I think BB is a great coach, just the players dont always respond. He needs to “instill” that work ethic. I thought the loss the the Pens would have made em hungry enough, but apparently not so far. Maybe they need the playoffs atmosphere to light the fire.
by hockeyman33 on Oct 10, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions
The Bylsma thing has to come from the Cup. Granted that’s a big thing but he took a hugely talented team that was missing their most important D and had quit on their coach and made them play better. Not really a huge feat, IMO. It was more timing than anything.
If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.
The Pens certainly had quit playing on Therrien. They had many early season problems. Gonch was out for a while. So was Fleury. I recall the Pens were making all kinds of excuses for the poor performance while the Caps kept having injuries and kept bringing guys up from Hershey and started to win again.
So who wins in the end? The Pens, who spent the middle half of the year making excuses. Grr!
I don’t understand the “…come from the Cup” portion of the comment.
I’m saying your friend’s high opinion of Bylsma was because the Pens won the Cup. Not that it’s entirely undeserved; winning the Cup is winning the Cup. I just don’t think Bylsma did anything extraordinary. The team had so much freaking skill I think almost any new voice could have done that.
If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.
It’s certainly a contributing factor.
He had gone to watch the practices at Kettler back in March. At the time, the Caps were mired in a slump. He caught the Caps practice and then went and had lunch. Then, he had lunch and heard some people talking about watching the Pens practice. So my friend went to watch the Pens. He noticed that Bylsma was working the Pens harder than the Caps had. He also met and talked to Bylsma after practice and was favorably impressed.
Bylsma is more in tune to this young Pens team….He’s flexible enough to adapt and preaches an aggressive brand of hockey (not unlike Boudreau).
Bylsma also now has a regular season record of 22-4-4….I think F&B was right in a lot of things he said above that a lot of Disco’s success had to do with Gonchar’s injury and the fact a lot of players quit on Therrien but gotta give Bylsma credit for how he’s contuining to roll on.
