Is it 7 yet??
Is it too soon to start drinking for this game?? It feels a little like alcoholism considering I’m by myself and in Indiana where I don’t think they know hockey exists…
Haha they’re still around… But down in Bloomington, its all basketball, all the time. Sometimes we acknowledge that IU has a football team, but hockey is still pretty far off the radar.
Fair enough, you are in deep deep Hoosier-ville, you have my sympathies! (not that Dayton is much of a hockey town either, but at least we’ve managed to keep an ECHL (‘the league with the meaningless acronym!’) team alive.
Too bad the Caps ECHL team is South Carolina, it would be nice to occasionally see a Caps prospect play here.

Where do you get that info, Ames?

I Hate the Flyers
Also: Don’t forget to make your SPG picks. :)
Pick SPG for your chance to win probably nothing.
Speaking of...
Can you set up a Flyers SPG? I’d love to play it.

I have nothing to say about that picture, but my friend here does:
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Over/under on Brash/Cote, Round 1… 7 minutes. Get your bets in.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I think that penalty might have been a product of Sbisa being somewhat unfamiliar with playing forward.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.

Wow, Biron didn’t see that at all. And it was right in front of him…

Great kill.
I can’t believe the differences b/t the Flyers PP at home and on the road.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Its going to have to be a pretty deflating penalty on the Caps for the Flyers to score on the PP tonight.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Btw, it’s going to be so nice once Nick learns how to win draws. Probably would net him an extra 5-10 points per year.

I could only imagine
how good he could be if he could win draws cleanly in the offensive zone.

Luca Sbisa is a nice kid, but his playing forward after he was about 8th on the depth charts for DEFENSE shows how banged up these Flyers are.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Anyone want to guess when Eric Fehr’s last goal was?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Close. Dec. 4. Ten games ago.
That is not cutting it, and will land him in the press box when Flash is ready.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Yes. I am looking forward to the return of Flash.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Agreed, but Fehr is doing nothing in either zone right now
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
This is the sixth straight road sellout for the Flyers.
Wonder if that’s a record?

Huh. I think Fehr’s stinkin’ aloud, but that’s b/c he’s supposed to be a finisher and he ain’t finishin’. Maybe he’ll get one and get rollin’.

I’m with ya. :) My thoughts are – as great as they’ve been playing, I feel like they’re over-achieving and the goal tending duo of Fernandez/Thomas doesn’t really strike my heart with fear.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Yeah, they have alot of good forwards
but nobody that strikes fear in your heart like a Kovalev or Ovechkin can.

February and March he had a GAA around 3 and a SV% around .900.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Keeping Alzner
Anyone think it could be Flash traded? Of all the (tradable) Caps, he seems to be the one with the most value. Nylander too pricey, Clark too unproductive. Caps need defense more than Flash´s modest production.
I think the most likely scenario is Alzner returning to Hershey right now. I hate it, but I think it’s where we’re heading. Path of least resistance and all.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I agree. Sure whets the appetite, seeing what King Karl can do. I don’t really see Flash going anywhere.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
You need Flashes (cheap and serviceable) when you have Alexes.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
And there’s no way in hell I’m typing this 12 months ago.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
As far as trading Flash, I don’t think you can, not with him showing that he’s probably a 20-goal scorer and he’s signed through next year on the cheap. And with Kozzie UFA at year’s end, you can’t trade him, imo.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Dunno, I think Karl´s D might be more valuable to this team. Caps were suspect on D before he joined, but scoring goals hasnt been an issue with Flash out.
But it’s not either/or on Flash and Alzner – Alzner’s cap hit is nearly a million bucks more.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Modest production? 12 goals in 31 games = 31 goals per 82 games. That’s great production for the ~750k they’re paying him.
Maybe modest in that it isn’t totally proven to be sustainable.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Bengt behind the bench is – excuse my language – fuckin’ sweet.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Hopefully Alex Semin is less cute this period.

You have to give Fehr credit for a good forecheck and shift there, JP

Sure, but… plenty of guys can forecheck. If we wanted a forechecker, Chris Bourque could skate there. Fehr needs to finish.
Epic Fehl.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Agreed, but I still think Fehr can turn it around. He’s shown potential in the NHL but he just can’t seem to get it done on a regular basis. I would be surprised if he breaks out next year and his 08-09 and 09-10 and similar to Fleischmann’s 07-08 and 08-09. You don’t score 109 goals in your last 142 WHL games with hands and a shot.
Agreed. No rush – everything else is working. I’d just like to see more frequent (pardon the pun) flashes.

Nice. Huge PP – score here, go in 2-0. Then again, given Philly’s PK, it might be 1-1.

Time
OV is at over 16 minutes, more than anyone else on the team including Green (who usually leads time on ice). I don’t know why, but he seems to have double shifted a few times.
It’s to get him away from Timonen and Coburn.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Sure, and OV has the stamina to pull it off for a while, but at some point that time hurts his play.

That one goal from a Flyers defensemen there is more than the Caps let in all playoff series long.

I wish.
I’ve been a pretty staunch supporter and loved the move when we reacquired him, but 92 just can’t or won’t with BB. He can’t keep up with OV so you can’t play him up there, and spread out some of our Center goodness (read Nicky) with another line. No, what we have here is suck, not slump. Tonight was painful to watch.
And as much as I dislike him, I really respect Mike Richards’ game. Different blend of strengths than Nicky, but just good if not better. That sould be a great one on one rivalry to watch for years.
What the hell was Semin’s problem tonight?
I hope it’s just rust. That’s two games in a row with multiple prime opportunities that he has either tried to pass or curl and drag his way around sliding defenders…with open shots each time.
I hate when our top players try to do Nyander impressions. Pisses me off.
Just got home...
Wanted to point out that it was downright warm in the Phone Booth tonight…just in case anyone was wondering (although it was probably pretty obvious that ice conditions were not great).
