"Bruce, he coaches the Washington Capitals. I don't care what he says. I've got my team to get ready here. This is obviously an important game, it's a hard game, and I don't care what he said, to be honest with you. He can say what he wants. Our team plays the way we play; we're a stand-up, honest hockey team. And he can save that stuff for the media outside of me, because I don't really care to hear it."

Caps biggest rival or Caps biggest rival? Even the coaches are butting heads.

Hey, you cut it off
I think the last line of the quote was “Now if you will excuse me I have to go pinky swear with Arron Asham that I won’t make him go out on the ice tonight and then Briere’s groin needs more tape.”

"we're a stand-up, honest hockey team"
That’s rich coming from the coach of a team that leads the East and is third in the league in penalty minutes, and is second in the league in fighting majors, Stevens.
You just keep right on thinking that.
The Flyers don’t think of the rivalry the same way the Caps do, though … I’m up for giving them a reason to despise us. :)

Since when are fighting majors dishonest?

Agreed on that point, but calling a team that has Scottie Upshall and Danny Briere (and, until recently, Steve Downie) “stand-up” and “honest” is… um… a stretch.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Bruce is relishing in this rivalry? Even promoting it to some degree? This almost reminds me of the heyday of the Avs-Wings rivalry when Mark Crawford complained that Scotty Bowman couldn’t hear because of the plate in his head. We’re not there yet, but it would be fun to have a rivalry with that level of intensity.
If reaching that level requires Stefan Della Rovere to pull a Claude Lemieux and plant Danielle Briere’s face into the boards. . .

The odd part
is that if you did plant Briere’s face into anything… he’d STILL come away with some kind of groin injury.
Bruce is definitely relishing it. I think in his mind this is all part of “Playoff Preparation” for his clubs mindset. We feed the hate now and then UNLEASH it in April and May.
One more win against Boston and I bet he starts dropping some Bruins comments just to get the emotions geared up.
He is a smart man that Boudreau. He’s got a young team that gets swayed by emotion, both postively and negatively, and he’s doing his part to harness that. He’s used to coaching developing players and when half your team is under 25, All-Word All-Scoring MVP Phenoms aside, they are still “developing” and the man is masterfully plying his craft.

You made me LOL.
Maybe that says something about the proximity of Briere’s face to his groin? Or to other people’s groins?

still amazes me
how well Bruce has done since he stepped up. its easy to take for granted that we have such a dedicated and smart coach. he is a crafty one….

It is so on
I love it. Think Stevens is a little pissed Bruce beat him out for Coach of the Year? Now if only we could get the two of them to go over the glass separating the benches and start screaming at each other. I know this, these Caps players will go through a wall for Bruce. Let’s see if the Flyers will do the same for Stevens. Is it 7:00 yet?

Really this is all about how lopsided the hate is right now. Flyers have no reason to hate these Caps. And the Caps cannot get over how the Flyers “wronged” them.
Tonight is all about how the Caps control their emotions.

Gotta agree with you there. It kind of reminds me of the pre-2004 rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees, all one-sided. But as the Sox showed, it can all change in a heartbeat or the three inches that Dave Roberts beat Jeter’s tag in game four.

True, but I can’t see the tables turning in this game, or even the regular season.

Probably not, but the table has to start turning, may as well be tonight!

Cushion the potential fall all you want – it’s a huge game for Philly, for both their Division and Conference standing.
But I do agree that the hate is mostly one-sided, though I think it’s little more than a coach’s motivational tool.

It is and it isn’t. It’s the final game on a bruising roadtrip against a very hot team. It would be a huge win, but I’m not sure it would be a real damaging loss.

Nice use of quotes
So you think the playoff series last year was called and played fairly, do you? That’s what “Wronged” says to me. And if that’s how you feel, I must take a moment to laugh.
