Most Saves: 22 - Olie Kolzig
I remember that one. Someone (yoo hoo!) didn’t get the memo that you were supposed to let the goals go in during an all star game. Someone got his dander up.

You’ve got Ovechkin down for three All-Star selections, but counting this year isn’t it four? Or wasn’t he picked in his rookie year?

There wasn’t an AS game in 2005-06 due to the Olympics.
There’s no game scheduled for next year (2010) either.

Number 12
Bondra is eligible for HHOF consideration beginning in 2010. I wonder who else is in that retired-in-2007 “class”.

I think there was an issue with his retirement, though. I’ve hear rumors that he didn’t get all the paperwork done, or something to that effect, and that’s why the Caps haven’t been able to retire #12 yet (that’s just what I’ve heard). I wonder what effect that would have?

maybe….
but from emails i’ve had with ted, it has to do with the fact that bondra is just “geting back into the family” after everything that went down. Also we just retired gartner making 4 retired jerseys for a 35 year old franchise. Adding olie and bonzai right away ….making 6 jerseys retired for a relatively young team - basically, just give it some time.

I don’t think 6 would be excessive at all (especially considering it was still 1 until whenever they retired Langway, about 10 years ago I guess). Bondra and Olie are deserving as soon as their paperwork is in and they’re ready to accept it/are back in the family. That may take some time with Olie, but I hope this year has given him some perspective.

Bob Seer-wah
Ah yes, along with Yvon L, Guy Charron, Hartland Monahan, Ace Bailey et al, my first couple years of Caps hockey.

Bob Sirois!
“Set Washington record (since broken) with eight shots in game vs. Kansas City on March 23, 1976.” Well, there you are! Mr. All Star!

I’m going to say Ovi gets an assist this year since he’s been so balanced in points this season.

Haz and I had a long chat about Peter Bondra yesterday. God, I miss that guy.

same here…still remember his streak down the ice and blasting a slapshot past hasek in the 98 cup run (was it in OT . game 5?)

Hasek throwing his blocker at Bondra in game 2 (and the resulting OT victory) is one of my top 3 favorite moments as a Caps fan, without question. Bondra’s check on Hasek was the turning point in that series. The ref must have had a sense of humor not to call a penalty on that check (but still call one on Hasek for the hissy fit).
