Wise’s column yesterday was a joke too.
I guess one of the “bad” things we have to deal with now are all these columnists wanting to get in on what’s “trendy” to them at the moment.

Tarik should make them withdraw the line at the bottom that reads “Staff writer Tarik El-Bashir contributed to this report.”

I really like Tarik's coverage of the Caps
but theres not much else I like about the WaPo sports section. Certainly John Feinstein, maybe Wise when he’s not covering the Caps, and thats it.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I just said,
Tarik, Feinstein, and Wise when not covering the Caps.

I’m sorry, I was unclear. I was referring to your subject line. What do you like about TEB’s coverage?
Just gets down to business
tells you everything you need to know. I follow alot of beat guys, and I’ve read way too much Roch Kubatko covering the Orioles. Tarik won’t give you lame jokes, you know your gonna get your line combos, d pairings and starter for the night going in and your also gonna get a general sense of the mood at KCI.

Thats more his blog though
I like his print articles as well.

That’s true. But he also misses big parts of The Story: He doesn’t understand the Nylander contract, he ignores the important salary cap story, etc.
And, as a whole, the TEB/Katie/whomever bunch refuses to link to content on this site. That’s childish. Almost always the most thoughtful/analytical Caps content of a given day is here.
Don’t sell Peerless, Red Skate or others short.
But yeah, their refusal to link to quality content based on the source thereof is curious.

And there are some blogs who hardly ever link out as well. It’s a style/strategy, I suppose.

I'll get my Nylander trade rumors elswhere
usually like the bloggers at TSN.ca. I recognize that this is a great forum for Caps talk and didn’t realize Tarik was competition. He shouldn’t be: He offers facts and we offer opinions.

I don’t think of TEB as competition, I just think of him as a stenographer-plus.
JP does analysis. The Post doesn’t. Tom Boswell jumping on the zamboni isn’t analysis.
I could barely get through half of that boswell column
He gives me little insight and never tells me anything I don’t already know when talking about his supposed sport, baseball. But him talking hockey, forget about it. As overrated as they come.

you have to walk a fine line when you're a beat writer
that’s what makes unabashed forums such as this so magnificent.
That doesn’t seem to stop Steven Goff, who is the best beat writer the Post has (IMO). I appreciate TEB’s work, but he could learn a lot from Goff, including putting info and commentary out on non-caps but hockey related stories that are news stories. Goff puts his contacts to work. Soccer insider often knows about breaking stories hours if not days before they hit the news proper.
The Post’s Caps coverage bites. The blogs are better. Solution: Ignore the Post game stories, etc., use TEB for line combinations (heh), and read the Rink.
Not related, but Happy Birthday to Josh Godfrey! He didn’t play for the Bears last night, but it probably wouldn’t help…it was an ugly 7-2 loss last night

It’s in response to the factual error in the subject post, I’d assume.
Last I checked, commenting on the underlying post is still acceptable netiquette.

Let’s be fair, these days covering the Nats, the Orioles AND the Redskins is pretty much a guarantee of brain rot, isn’t it?

Perhaps not as much as watching those teams.
And you forgot the Wiz. :)

I don't think Svrluga covers the O's for the post
not that I’d go to the Post for my favorite baseball team’s coverage. I have my own dim-witted beat men, Roch Kubatko and Peter Schmuck.

FYI, the online version has been corrected, but the above quote is how it ran initially (and, presumably, in print).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I had an email exchange with Barry, who is embarrassed by the error and called it unacceptable. He informed me of the online correction and stated that a correction will run in the paper tomorrow as well.

Gee, I remember the days when Ovie just narrowly beat out Sid for the Calder…..

Yeah, maybe that “narrow” meme should make a comeback. After all, a 124-5 first place vote margin is pretty tight.

Barry
I’ll fess up to being a fan of the terrible Nationals. Barry S. covered the team in fine fashion for the first three years of their existence. He was a smart, witty and prolific blogger, too, and we were sad to see him go to the Redskins beat, which I’m sure merited a ninth staff writer to cover the crap they call a football team.
Anyway, yes, it’s a mistake, but probably an accident, and it was corrected. Blame the fact checkers.
I, for one, will never complain about extra column inches dedicated to the Caps in the Post, especially if it’s by someone other than Boz or (God forbid, Korn or Wilbon), mistakes be damned.
