[Cap of the Day is a shameless rip of a regular FanPost feature over at Pension Plan Puppets, but that doesn't make it any less fun to remember some of the greats - and not-so-greats - in Caps history]

Also, holds the Caps single season record for most points by a goaltender (0-8-8 in 80-81).
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
When I was growing up in NY, I was a Ranger fan and I was able to get tickets to a Caps/Rangers game, and in goal for the Caps was Mike Palmateer. The only reason I could get the tickets was because the Caps were so bad back then, and the Rangers were pretty good.
Anyway, the game starts and Palmateer is in the zone, he’s kicking out everything and anything, and ends up beating the Rangers with a shut out (I forget the score, it didn’t matter, I hated not seeing the Rangers score at the time.)
When I spoke to him at the opening of the arena in 1997, I told him about that, and with a grin, he apologized for the shut out. A good laugh for the day…
