Are the Caps looking past Edmonton?

"Speaking of the Oilers, lots of the talk after today's practice already was looking ahead to Wednesday's showdown in Pittsburgh, where it will be Ovechkin vs. Malkin and Semin vs. Crosby." - Capitals Insider

Having lost two in a row including one against a non-playoff bound team (at the moment), we better not be looking past anyone.

However, I’m willing to hear jokes about looking past the Pens because they suck so bad.

Bite your tongue! That Pens game has disaster written all over it (as in a deflating loss coupled with a springboard victory for the opponents).

In fairness, there might have been “lots of talk” about the Pens because that’s what Tarik, Corey, et. al. were asking about.

I don’t know, JP, I’m with boz…I’d be pretty excited to see the Penguins on my upcoming schedule soon.*

*Unless they fire Therrien between now and then.

See, boz? A Pens fan agrees with you – never a good thing (unless we’re talking about how much the Flyers and/or Rangers suck)…

We’ll be playing Pittsburgh just in time for them to break out of their slump.

Cynical as that sounds, you all were thinking it in the back of your minds, too.

I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.

Shouldn’t they be focusing on winning? It doesn’t matter if Crosby and Malkin won’t be able to sit for weeks after got their asses kicked if no one remembers to score and/or defense…

I agree with JP. This game has all the makings of one that could demoralize one team and prop up the other. We know which way that usually goes…

But the Pens do play the Flyers the night before so that should help. How nice would it be to take both games in Pitt?

I don’t think we can overlook anything or anyone right now. If we do, we’re in trouble. Freefall would suck so bad right now it’s unreal, and I’m afraid that’s what’s going to happen.

It’s hard to ignore the Pens match-up with the story lines it’s going to have but, I agree, you can’t look past Edmonton. A two-win streak is what we want.

A twothree-win streak is what we wantneed.

There, fixed that for you.

I just walked by someone at school in the middle of PA who was wearing an Oilers jersey…I thought ‘what the heck is this guy thinking?’ then I saw the back and it was the Great One. Still it was a welcomed relief to all the Crosby and Briere jerseys I see in PA.

PA is a shithole. Sorry you have to live there.

by Whiter Mage on Jan 13, 2009 12:45 AM EST up reply actions

I take that back. I enjoy the route 15 area.

BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU SAY---MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A SHITA**

Pa is not a shithole, only Philly & Pittsburg. 70% of the state is great.

I still have an old Oilers Gretzky Jersey…I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Shoot the puck!

Caps will roll over both teams.

And I just read that Big John will be back tomorrow. Lock it up!

BAM. Erskine. Gonna be nice to have that stay at home tough physical defenseman we’ve been clamoring about for months.

I officially nominate this as Erskine’s theme video/song.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
