Post Road Pumpkin Ale
is my beverage of choice for this one. First sip….yes!
The keyboard is mightier.
Nice call. I think I’ll crack a Sierra Nevada. Cheers!

Depending on how this game goes, I might be hitting up the hard stuff next.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Nice HNIC piece on Boudreau and his buddy John Anderson. They’re pretty much in love.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Thank you, UofF, for nailing that game shut before this one starts.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Toronto announcers: “Overchkin is probably the best one on one player in the league. Crosby is terrific and so are others, but Ovechkin is the player that makes fans sit on the edge of their seat because you expect something special to happen.”
Nice to hear that. Don’t disagree with that one iota.
eh
i love Ovi and how he plays but i have to disagree on this one. there are definitely better one on one guys in the league. Ilya Kovalchuk, for example.

I’ve got to agree. He’s become predictable one-on-one. Still elite, but there are other guys I’d be more scared of (maybe including Alex Semin).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Am I the only one who’s CSN “HD” feed looks relatively crappy?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Jesus, these guys are all over us
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I figured they’d come out all guns blazing to start to try and take advantage of the inexperienced D. Weather the storm, boys, weather the storm.
The forwards really need to help out the D. Already I’ve seen Alex and Donny not do that when they could/should.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I still don’t understand playing two playmakers with Alex…
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
ooooh, poutine. i could go for some of that right now

Sweet Jesus that would’ve been awesome
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
C’mon, Kozzy. Gotta bury that.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I’m fine seeing 42 there on the PP. It’s 42 at even strength that scares the crap out of me.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
And I’d rather Alzner focus on his 5-on-5 and SH ice time and not have to worry about PP.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
He’s proven to be worthless at that – why not keep using him where he’s actually proven useful?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Are we not men we are Deveaux
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
When Hollweg’s on he’s a good Matt Cooke/Jarkko Ruutu type but when he’s not he’s Sean Avery without the penchant for fashion.
I dunno that I’ve seen that upside, but I certainly have seen the stupid.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Of all the times I thought Nylander would pass and not shoot, that was in the top three.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I can’t recall the last time Nylander did anything that made me feel better
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Ha. I was going to say “waiving his NMC”
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
It definitely is. Tyler was joking that Tarik doesn’t know the difference (because he has never demonstrated that he does).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I would prefer that Sean Collins was in South Carolina
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Being in South Carolina isn’t a fate I’d wish on anyone. …except Sean Avery (but not on the stingrays)
I’ve had some fun in Charleston in my day. But other than those few nights, I could do without the state. Especially in the summer. Ugh. Makes August in D.C. feel dry.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Listening to these Toronto announcers, you’d think Washington completely dominated this first period.
Raise your hand if you thought this game would be 0-0 after, say, three minutes much less 20.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
OMG. I feel so stupid. CSN just ran an ad that sang “meet you at the turtle.”
I thought it was going to be about Andre Deveaux. Instead it was an ad for a bar.
Good shift for that Hershey line of Laich-Gordo-Fehr
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Alzner was fighting a smile as play was about to re-start. A Canadian kid trying to play it cool after scoring his first NHL goal on HNIC. Heh.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Yes! Johnny credited with a shot on goal on that clear early in this PP.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
More importantly, great save on Blake.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I think I just heard Laughlin say, “The way Nylander controls the puck would be so important for a team like CHI or VAN.”
If Collins somehow scores, I’m heading to the bar and making one of these
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Give Jason Blake a helper on that one
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Sweet – from 2-0 to 1-0 with Fehr injured
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
That’s a fairly ignorant and stereotyped comment
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Laughlin: “The Leafs are not playing very well because of the Caps’ persistence.”
Uh, no, the Leafs aren’t playing very well because they’re not a very good team.
You guys should let Mikhail Grabovski score it would be exciting, I promise.

It’s about time for Toronto’s solid offense so far to start their disappearing act.

2-1 Bears at the end of two. 19 saves for Varlamov, goals by Bouchard and Lacroix.

Update from Grand Rapids: Chris Chelios took a terible penalty in OT last night and lost the game for the Griffins.

Rookie mistake. It was his first AHL game, ya know.
He set the record for oldest person to ever play in the AHL. Take that Gordie Howe.

Schenn hurt his knee on that hit by Ovie, I think he’s in the locker room as a precautionary measure.

Chemmy/PPP – how does Hollweg have a job?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Deveaux has played like four games and has been a decent fourth liner. He can fight which no one else on the Leafs can do.

Nice. Was Brian Boucher in net for that one too?

While we have Leafs fans here… admit it – you guys designed the Sens’ thirds so they’d look particularly dumb, didn’t you?

Ha, HNIC asked Alzner how it felt to score his first NHL goal and he said that as a defenseman he was just amazed it went in.
Hey, Vesa Toskala is slightly above mediocre according to Howard Berger.

I saw that. Nice work by you shredding that (though it made me sad, as Jose Theodore isn’t quite mediocre either).

As a Leafs fan, players scoring their first goal is pretty much a common occurrence. We’re like the village hag who shows every inexperienced boy their first notch.

Russo reports Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler at the Preds/Wild game. That might be Option B right now on Center Ice…
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Two moderately attractive former American Idol finalists, the latter of whom was/is with Jordin Tootoo.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I said Alzner has 15:31 TOI and leads the Caps D. That’s worthy of some contemplation, I think. Can the Caps win a game IN Toronto with a rookie in his third (fourth?) game leading the D in TOI?!?! Ugh.
And he led them in ice time last game.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Road game. In TO. Just wouldn’t expect/consider ideal a guy in his third NHL game leading your D in TOI. (And winning, if they win.)
Third? Try sixth NHL game – he’s a friggin’ veteran on this patchwork blueline.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Any chance these guys mention Fehr again tonight?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I think Locker just jinxed us.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Ovie will get that one back. Book it.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Our D is stout! Good luck getting back in the lineup, Greenie!
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Alright, Alzner isn’t a fighter, but a Gordie Howe Hat Trick on HNIC? I say he has to go after the biggest pussy on the Leafs (pick one) and get it done.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
TEB has Fehr with a shoulder injury – better than the back, to be sure.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I say he has to go after the biggest pussy on the Leafs (pick one) and get it done.
Too late. He’d have to spend the remaining time (and then some) deciding who that is.
Pick Hollweg
Alzner gets the win, and we Leafs fans don’t get to see him and his ’stache in the lineup for a while.
And one super boring interview with Smokin’ Al
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
AO raises his arms on non-goals more than any player in the League.

I was about to say, Mo’s having a great game.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
(Bears win 4-2 – team record 10th straight win with a D that probably is only slightly better than one that we could put together with people who’ve posted in this thread)
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Hell no
Keep him in Hershey. Would you want to face a guy like that coaching an NHL team that isn’t you?
How Toronto only had 20 SOG is amazing (and, for them, horribly embarrassing).
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Good game Caps
I will admit it was a boring game, considering the Caps are one of the more exciting teams in the NHL. But I’m chalking that up to the injuries on both teams.
Jurcina getting that goal quickly after Antropov tied it up steadied what coudl have snowballed into trouble.
Definitely, whereas the Leafs took no advantage of the momentum shift from Laich’s goal being wiped out

One bright note of this busy ass site (I’d prefer the old one, in all honesty, JP, too much stuff going on here), having the more “Community” feel and more posts is good for when I have to miss games. Was good to read this wrap-up, although, damn, is there a way to cut back on how busy the site looks?
A re-design is underway. By all means, let SBN know exactly how you feel, though – support@sbnation.com.
