Is it too much to ask

For Center Ice to include what network is broadcasting the games in their menu?

This is difinitely not in HD

I’m a sad panda.

Using Center Ice? Yeah, for some reason sometimes is says ‘HD’….but it never is….

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

actually

This time the menu doesn’t say HD, rather it’s Joe B and Comcast claiming it is.

New nickname for the new first line

The one I came up with last game – Backstrom Victor Overdrive is now

Backstrom Turnover Overdrive. It doesn’t sound right.

Offensive zone penalties are bad enough but an offensive zone penalty that takes your team off the PP….?

Look at that shot. I got to get me some whippier sticks.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 7:25 PM EST reply actions

No, I’m pretty sure it’s the stick. It always is….

Helmer took the shot, not Alzner.

right

but Alzner passed to Helmer I think. So if there were two tips Alzner wont get the A.

Right. That’s what I meant too.

Agreed

Never heard of that one, thought they were “part of the playing surface”

That’s what I’d thought.

Never heard of that one, thought they were "part of the playing surface"

That was exactly my line of thinking too

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:14 PM EST reply actions

What a stupid penalty by Ovechkin. Completely unnecessary.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

That 2 for diving was a gift. Also, I like this Aucoin guy.

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2008 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Genius.

Btw, two things:

1) Whenever I hear “Van Massenhoven” I also hear “Van Massivehandjob”

2) I think the kid that gets the Ovechkin jersey for XMas says “fuck yeah” in that ad.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Dec 4, 2008 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

Van Massenhoven actually does mean “of the massive handjob” in Dutch.

by macvechkin on Dec 4, 2008 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

I’m glad the Isles play got the diving minor, though. It was pretty blatant.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, no argument here. I’ll take it even if it’s completely unjust!

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2008 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

That was horrendous.

by Ames on Dec 4, 2008 8:34 PM EST reply actions

Playing goal behind this D unit must be scary. Horrible right now.

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2008 8:35 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, Nylander – when Jurcina finally clears the zone after killing the whole damn powerplay, don’t feed it right back to him and force him to ice it. A-hole.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Dec 4, 2008 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

Nylander has an extremely bad habit of doodling in his own zone. Please get him out of here, McPhee.

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2008 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

When he handed his stick to Alzner earlier in the period, it was like he had no clue what to do with himself.

by Ames on Dec 4, 2008 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

Not saying that shouldn’t have been a dive but man oh man Andy Sutton milked that for all it was worth.

He’s a guy who throws a ton of cheap shots and then dives himself. A 6’6’’, 250 pound guy who plays like he’s a 5’9’’, 180 pounder trying to to make it as a “pest”

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:38 PM EST reply actions

I don't think it was a dive

But I don’t think it was boarding, either. Young refs have a remarkable tendency to make borderline calls on Ovie.

by grapejoos on Dec 4, 2008 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think Ovechkin’s hit knocked him down but I also think he was lying there on the ice with his head in his hands trying to draw a call…and it worked. The ref’s hand didn’t go up for a good second or two after the hit.

But my personal disdain for Sutton may be clouding my judgement.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

I like how Aucoin on skates is barely taller than Al Koken

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 8:48 PM EST reply actions

And one of them is credited to Nylander.

Oy.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 9:01 PM EST up reply actions

Alright

Let’s have a third period more like the first than the second here boys.

by Ames on Dec 4, 2008 8:55 PM EST reply actions

Agreed, but they did have another 12 shots in the second. How can they only have 2 goals on 29 shots against this shaky a goalie?

First NHL point for King Karl!

Really smart play by Alzner.

Gotta love Brashear’s falling down celebration.

by David Getz on Dec 4, 2008 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

Really smart.

Still, only my second favorite goal Brash has ever scored against the Isles – I prefer the one where he scored and then dropped Witt like a toilet seat.

And a fantastic fall on the ass celebration for the Don.

Great Goal by Brash

I know his corsi has sucked but he always seems to fore-check like a mother – probably to fault (and a bad corsi) so it’s great to see him get a goal

by crazycaldwell on Dec 4, 2008 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Brash actually has a pretty decent Corsi considering his role on the team. Great to see him score.

I really liked aucoin’s play, and I honestly didn’t think nyls was that bad. I don’t want to see him go just yet, lets get clarks bum ass of the team first.

by Ovechkin on Dec 4, 2008 10:13 PM EST reply actions

Just got back from the game

-Wow, Joey Mac may not be a good goalie but he made some crazy and often lucky stops out there tonight or it would be 8-2.
-The refs were making some unbelievable ticky-tack B.S. calls on our guys out there, meanwhile it seemed that it took a Cap being completely taken out 5 inches away from them before a call would go against the Isles.
-Man, Lepisto scares the absolute crap out of me.
-Prince Karl (I downgraded him after the FLA game) clearly needs more seasoning, the game seems just a step faster than he is used to, reminds me of watching Flash last year, taking 1 second too long…all game long.
-Jurcina still sucks.
-The Isles are a horrendous hockey team, jesus they’re bad!
-The Brads-Steckel-Brashear line looked really good tonight, it was great to see that scrum goal in the third.
-The Aucoin-to-Kozlov-to-Flash scoring chance was beautiful, and I still don’t know how Fehr put the puck in from that angle and it happened right in front of me.

by wittcap79 on Dec 4, 2008 10:48 PM EST reply actions

I thought the refs were pretty even (very strict) until about the last five minutes.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
