First in a JP gameday thread! Okay maybe it’s not that climatic…but still..first.

I think that’s my first “first.” I’m, um, honored?

Was it good for you too JP? You know, your first…

So if you’re Lindy Ruff, you keep Vanek away from 52-55… and win 4-1, right? I mean, Les Caps are throwing out two very, very, er, uh, not-scary D pairings tonight.
FYI...
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov
Laich-Nylander-Clark
Bourque-Steckel-Fehr
Giroux-Gordon-Bradley
Defense
Morrisonn-Collins
Schultz-Green

that might have been the sickest power play of the season. chance after chance and they couldn’t clear the zone.
It’s so quiet in HSBC you can hear Niagara Falls.

If any Sabers fans are still lurking around – we don’t bite and is Maxim injured?
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Healthy scratch
As Joe B/Craig mentioned, “a -14 will do that to ya”….referencing Maxim A being a scratch
I see. i’m surprised, though. He’s somewhat of a Cap-killer.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
9G, 10A in 29 career games against the Caps
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Good to know you don't bite.
Max is not hurt…just not playing…as far as i know

Thoughts and prayers for Alex guys. Surprised that wasn’t reported today.
by CapitalsKremlin on Dec 30, 2008 7:20 PM EST reply actions
you’d think the team/alex might have mentioned that earlier and that some of the writers would have covered it. I mean it happened over the weekend and it’s Tuesday….
by CapitalsKremlin on Dec 30, 2008 7:22 PM EST up reply actions
as a print media major, it’s kinda embarrassing to miss a big story like that, although to TEB’s credit, Ovie may have kept that from reporters in the morning and opened up about it later to the team. Who knows.

the Caps pulled Luongo earlier in the year….might as well try and pull the other Top 5 G’s from their nets

Man, that was a juicy rebound.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Btw, update from Wrigley – my source on the scene says Carrie Milbank says hi to me.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Man, the rebounds are BIG tonight
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Or continue to go offsides. Whichever comes first.

I do enjoy how that they expect a lot from their team on home ice as a new year’s resolution. They are either extremely early or waaaaaaaay late haha.

Remorese
Just arrived from one of those “holiday” get togethers. I am cloaked in shame that in an earlier post, I offered that I was not confident tonight. I take that back. Sabes need the French Connection to break JT60 and our D…..
I just had to change a diaper and put the baby to bed – what’d I miss?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
The diaper was the baby’s, FYI

I’m sorry, I just don’t believe that someone is a jackass because of the sweater they wear.
(Unless they’re fat and wear Prada on a hot day. Then they’re definitely a jackass.)
I disagree. Certain teams cultivate a certain culture that turns even the best kids into bastards.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
This reminds me, does everyone know what Jeff Halpern’s teammates called him when he played for WSH?

Man, Kessel is having a great year. Good for him.
I still take Backstrom 10 times out of 10 over him, though.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
And to think, a year and a half ago, Kessel was being treated for cancer.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
And even with one ball he’s still more of a man than you-know-who.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
BOS/PIT, DET/CHI, USA Juniors and the Caps. I need more TVs.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Honestly, with those first two options, how does Versus have the Devils/Blues?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Disagree. In 1999-2000 the Blues won the President’s Trophy and the Devils had 103 points. :)
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
DET/CHI would have been a good idea pre-season as a pre-Winter Classic tie-in

Who’s taller – C’Bo or Gerbe?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
How the hell do they let Vanek split ’em?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Incredibly sound positioning.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Yeah, not a good passer. But good at poke checking, since his reach is ridiculous.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
In the NHL 09 roster update Alzer is on the Caps now and is ranked second to only Mike Green.
They scratched pothier with that move =\
Oh nice, I’ll have to download it. For PS3?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Good question. Maybe they don’t want to give him too much to think about right now.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
in the real game. OV and Flash have been 2nd unit PKers, but haven’t seen Backstrom (except in the Rangers game when the Caps were down bigtime). I think he’d be good on the PK – probably better than either of those two.
Agreed. But you don’t want to burden the kid too much right now. Plus, AO and Flash are better skaters. Quicker.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I thought we were talking about killing penalties?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Yes, but the job of a penalty killing forward is to intercept passes, backcheck, block passing lanes, etc.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Alright. Killer instinct time.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Sabers have had the majority of chances in the past few minutes.
If Bradley had been playing with a wooen stick, that’s not a slash.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Almost seems like they are trying too hard.

looksis absolutely awfultonight.
Fixed that for you.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Thanks for fixing that. I was wondering if he had misworded that or something.

Yeah, definitely a game where you realize he’s an AHL call up.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
They noted that Ovi was out for a long shift… 20 seconds before he came off the ice.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Well yeah, but it’s Buffalo’s turn to have a PP. Duh.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

Man. Remember Nick’s and Ovi’s slow starts? Was that this season?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
hard to imagine they actually were slumping this season

Note to Gaustad – hitting Ovechkin is not the same as hitting Schultz.

It only looked like too many men, since the Caps are so dominant.

What We're Reading
Everyone check out JP’s link to Puck Daddy re: Nolan Yonkman? Looks like Bradley’s been giving fighting lessons to former Caps.
Here’s a direct link to the YouTube of the fight.
Related: Nolan Yonkman is the captain of an AHL team?!
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
If Nashville calls him up before the next game against the Caps, will Nylander fake an injury that night?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
“Sorry coach, some old leg injury is acting up.”
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.

Make that 2-1 B’s. Savard just scored on a gorgeous shot.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Probably already been talked about on here, but I gotta admit I love the black and white NHL All-Star game commercial of Ovie doing his trick penalty shot.
I haven’t seen the ad yet. Anyone find it on YouTube?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
No worries. Someone had mentioned it the other day (Marky? NS?) and I was wondering if they’d hunted it down.

It’s games like these – times like this – that you’d like to have Brash in the lineup, no?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Mair just took a little run at Alex.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I mean, this is a game it would be nice to have Erskine out there for. Just in case things get chippy near the end.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
Agreed. Even Erskine is a better fighter than Brads (just ask Lucic)
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
yeah, Gaustad is taking some liberties…on the Sabres CI feed, they’re calling him ‘energetic’…homers
Wait… Rick Jeanneret not a homer?! HA!
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
really he's not.
I think more then anything he calls it as he sees it. I don’t think energetic is being a “homer”
by HO on Dec 30, 2008 9:06 PM EST up reply actions
No way. I mean, I don’t mind it – that’s actually sort of this thing, but he is a homer.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
I actually like RJ, I know his voice rubs some people the wrong way, but I like him.
He’s certainly much better than whoever it is that calls the Tampa games on the radio.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
I'll be a homer...
he is the best voice ever. The guys on VS drive me crazy and their love-fest for Sid makes me sick.
by HO on Dec 30, 2008 9:09 PM EST up reply actions
Well, yeah. Any Sid love-fest is too much for this crowd.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Wait a second, the Caps have the worst road GAA in the NHL? And they’re in fourth in points? Holy f.
Throw out that west coast trip. Who cares about it at this point? Their road record is fine. Everything’s fine. Nothing to see here. Move along.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Of course. But 3-1 with 12 minutes left is closer to not winning than 3-0.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Where the shutout does matter is in JT’s confidence, and that does matter to an extent.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
OK so it wasn’t just me. Teh awesome. I don’t want to hear any more about JT60s confidence now. That takes STONES.
No points for Ovie so far. TALK ABOUT A GUY WHO NEEDS TO BE SENT BACK TO HERSHEY.
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
He tied himself behind his back just to make it fair.
