So if you’re Lindy Ruff, you keep Vanek away from 52-55… and win 4-1, right? I mean, Les Caps are throwing out two very, very, er, uh, not-scary D pairings tonight.

that was impressive and indefensible

Schultz

Couldn’t really name what he brings to the team.

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:02 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Incredibly sound positioning.

Really good with his stick too.

by TylerG on Dec 30, 2008 8:04 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Really? He flails a lot with his long arms, but not exactly a soft passer.

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:05 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, not a good passer. But good at poke checking, since his reach is ridiculous.

In the NHL 09 roster update Alzer is on the Caps now and is ranked second to only Mike Green.

They scratched pothier with that move =\

PK

Why Ovechkin and Fleischmann but no Backstrom?

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:04 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good question. Maybe they don’t want to give him too much to think about right now.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Dec 30, 2008 8:05 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You mean in a PC game or in the NHL?

by TylerG on Dec 30, 2008 8:05 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

in the real game. OV and Flash have been 2nd unit PKers, but haven’t seen Backstrom (except in the Rangers game when the Caps were down bigtime). I think he’d be good on the PK – probably better than either of those two.

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:07 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh ok, sorry. Was confuzed.

by TylerG on Dec 30, 2008 8:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed. But you don’t want to burden the kid too much right now. Plus, AO and Flash are better skaters. Quicker.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Dec 30, 2008 8:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Flash is not a better skater than Backs. Backstrom can actually control the puck when he skates.

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:09 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I thought we were talking about killing penalties?

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

Backstom can actually control the puck when he skates…on the penalty kill.

by katzistan on Dec 30, 2008 8:11 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes, but the job of a penalty killing forward is to intercept passes, backcheck, block passing lanes, etc.
