With the 'Canes firing of Peter Laviolette, Bruce Boudreau is now the longest-tenured head coach in the Southeast Division.

Holy Crap
Kind of surprising…considering they’re above .500 and only 3 points out of first in the division. The southeast has had a complete coaching turnover in just over a year…

Wow.
I hope this decimates Carolina. For some reason I just don’t like them.

well...
I know I’m not fond of them since they seem to draw a LOT of cheap penalties. Sounds like they are going to use the “the team just stopped listening” excuse with the firing.

Those penalties the Hurricanes draw are BS
Staal dives as do alot of guys on that team, but since it’s so north american dominated they don’t get called for those penalties. Ovechkin and Semin, probably even Malkin or Datsyuk couldn’t get away with the stuff they got away with in the last couple of years.

Laviolette won’t be out of a job for long. Dallas? Edmonton?

Two Cup-winning head coaches now available from the SE: Torts and Laviolette. Not sure about his health, but Pat Burns is available too.

Burns is supposed to be healthy again, but he’s apparently not in a hurry to leave New Jersey, unlike everyone else in New Jersey.

Don't forget Marc Crawford
He’s got a job on HNIC but I have no doubt he wants to be back in the coaching game.

1) Amazing that Gabby is the senior coach in the SE. With the tremendous turn over the last year or so, he’s probably in the top 1/2 in seniority in the entire NHL.
2) So when do the Panthers and Thrashers wake up and replace their pathetic GM’s?

“Probably…?” It is my understanding that there are definitive data on this kind of thing.

“definitive data”? Feel free and share.

By my rough count, Boudreau is the 18th out of 30 for most tenured coach. 8th in the Eastern Conference…..although Julien and B. Sutter have him beat by only a couple months.

I don't know about the Panthers
but I heard Don Waddell is going to get the same position at Turner sports as Stan Kasten used to have before becoming president of the Nats. He would be running the teams in the Philips arena and I doubt he would still oversee all hockey operations for the Thrashers.

You can bet that neither Laviolette nor Tortorella will be out of coaching for long

Meanwhile Don Waddell and Jacques Martin still are employed. Go figure.

… And are still having more to do with sabotaging NHL hockey in those two markets than [insert non-traditional market cliche].

Jacques Martin is ridiculous
no sane GM should even touch Bryan McCabe with a stick.

Hilarious tidbit J.P. I think both Laviolette and Tortorella turn up elsewhere, but perhaps not until the off-season.
