Hockey in HD is glorious.

Some real stand up goaltending thus far, looks like this one could end up 6-5 or 2-1.

hush, some of us are watching the game on an old 20" tv they found in the basement of their apartment building!

by sonia on Dec 13, 2008 7:25 PM EST up reply actions

Oh don’t worry, I don’t actually own the TV. The neighbors happen to love hockey and usually don’t mind me peering in their window. As long as I put pants on. Yeah, they’re kind of sticklers about that.

great stuff so far

and a spot on comment by the announcers re: refs and letting play go to get a rhythm going…though McCreary is still a doucheknuckle

Guess Ovi didn’t want another night with no hits.

good on him for seeing the play through and drawing that penalty.

I bet $100 Brashear will not fight Josh Gorges

by David Getz on Dec 13, 2008 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

agreed, though

he may beat the snot out of someone else. After all, that’s really all he’s good for… : )

kind of surprised how defensive MON is playing—we’ll eat this up if it continues

by bigonetimer on Dec 13, 2008 7:36 PM EST reply actions

I like the intensity so far. Let’s keep it up for 60 minutes

Varlamov

I don’t get Joe B selling this as an emergency start by Varlamov. Has Bruce started anyone back to back this year, especially with the travel?

by toymechanic on Dec 13, 2008 7:39 PM EST reply actions

i don’t believe the guys on HNIC have said anything of the sort

by sonia on Dec 13, 2008 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

sadly I’m stuck with CSN+….non HD

by toymechanic on Dec 13, 2008 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

I haven’t heard anything on it either (watching HNIC)

you know

Cherry in HD is even better than I thought.

I’m guessing he’s four or five inches into his scotch. Just classic.

by bigonetimer on Dec 13, 2008 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

that suit must be breathtaking in HD! can you feel how soft it is?

by sonia on Dec 13, 2008 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

Whose this Cherry guy you’re talking about? I only see a crazy man in a suit ;)

the best part is

he’s ass nude from the waist down.

by bigonetimer on Dec 13, 2008 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

we are killing them on draws

by bigonetimer on Dec 13, 2008 7:48 PM EST reply actions

that’s as good a first I’ve seen on the road from us in a while

by bigonetimer on Dec 13, 2008 7:50 PM EST reply actions

What a miserable call on Ovechkin. Awful hard to high stick someone with your stick below your waist.

by David Getz on Dec 13, 2008 8:11 PM EST reply actions

4 min to o’byrne, being served by ovechkin

by sonia on Dec 13, 2008 8:12 PM EST reply actions

Someone better hit Kovalev. You can’t let a guy cross check your goalie up high. Especially in the crease.

Nylander

f.u. you HAVE to score there!

by ns on Dec 13, 2008 8:29 PM EST reply actions

Aw man, Nylander’s cursed or something.

by David Getz on Dec 13, 2008 8:29 PM EST reply actions

penalties are getting ridiculous

by toymechanic on Dec 13, 2008 8:31 PM EST reply actions

i’m still waiting for our make up call

by ns on Dec 13, 2008 8:37 PM EST reply actions

nice time to finally score a goal, nyles!

by sonia on Dec 13, 2008 9:32 PM EST reply actions

If BJ starts in net, that lone Habs goal does not go in.

by hotdog88gt on Dec 13, 2008 11:57 PM EST reply actions

but, yes, a sweet win indeed…

by hotdog88gt on Dec 14, 2008 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

So JT60...

…should now be third on the depth chart, no?

by Ben Rothenberg on Dec 14, 2008 7:31 AM EST reply actions

i hope so. can we just dump his ass on waivers?

by ns on Dec 14, 2008 8:26 AM EST up reply actions

I dunno.

Varlamov did a great job, but he did get beat a couple of times, and a couple more hit the post behind him. If the Habs could aim that would have been a very different game. That was a glimpse of the future, and a damn nice glimpse, but let’s let him get top minutes in Hershey.

Of course, that begs the question. Johnson’s contract expires at the end of this season, and I believe he goes UFA. Theodore’s contract expires at the end of next year. What do we do with the goalie situation? Do we leave Varlamov down in Hershey next year, resign Johnson to a two- or three-year contract, and find ourselves with Johnson/Varlamov in net in 2010? Obviously Theodore’s not going to get resigned, and that plan hasn’t changed.

by gotsparkly on Dec 14, 2008 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

If things stay the way they are right now, Johnson will be back as the #1 barring a silly contract offer for him by some other team. But really it’s very premature to speculate about all this – extensions will be earned or not and fates will be sealed or not come playoff time.

I am kind of shocked how many people are ready to get rid of JT already, but I guess that’s how it goes.

by grapejoos on Dec 14, 2008 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

What shocks me is the people who are already ready to get rid of Sloan after a few bad games – and him going out with injury kind of suggests that those bad games are him playing hurt.

As for JT – I never figured that he was here for more than two years. That’s why they didn’t sign Huet, I think – Huet wanted a four-year contract, and with Varlamov and Neuvirth in the wings, GMGM was having none. The goalie signing this year was never more than a placeholder until Varlamov was ready. That Johnson broke out and is playing like a beast is a bonus (and a damn good thing, too).

by gotsparkly on Dec 14, 2008 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

Right on all counts. Not sure how I feel about Sloan, but he’s good for his cap charge.
