Battle of the undefeated at home in regulation!

If the Caps win in regulation, they are the only team still undefeated at home, and probably played a hell of a game taking the number one team in the league.

Of the four, this is the one I'm looking forward to the most, and the one I'm the most nervous about. I'm not too wrecked about the Kings loss - but I think this one's important for us. It'll be a huge statement, and a win would mean that we will be in every team's crosshairs for the rest of the season (if we aren't already).

I've never been to the Caps' arena, and because the Flyers won't be playing there on a weekend anytime soon, it could be awhile. I've heard good things tough.

What do you guys like about it? Dislike?

by Matt P on Nov 22, 2008 10:18 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Matt: The Phone Booth has good points and bad points.

Likes: Near Chinatown. Good chow and places to have drinks before and after the game. You can see from most places in the arena. Right off Metro. Ticker between periods is an amusing pastime - occasionally you get some real gems. The people, whether they root for your team or not, are FOR THE MOST part civil and respectful (there are always exceptions).

Dislikes: Parking. Take Metro, save your sanity. Toilets do not always work and the staff has an obnoxious tendency to close three or four of them. Before every game somebody wiggles underneath the doors in the women's room near my section and unlocks them.

Can't comment on the beer, I don't drink beer.

1) 'Space: Parking at Verizon has never been an issue. Many lots within 1-2 blocks and at $10 is what most other arenas charge
2) Our biggest issue(which so far has improved this season) are the CC machines not working at the food/beer concessions. Also the workers aren't the most 'consumer friendly' we have ever seen.
3) Overall the Verizon is one of the better arenas to see a hockey game in the Eastern Conference

Agreed with all of the above... but, man, our music SUCKS!!! I assume the likely pre-pubescent deejays have become so immune to lame DC radio, that they have no clue as to who their audience is, and how music can really get the fans going. Ugh!

xThe only thing that really bugs me about the Verizon Center is the P.A. announcer and how he screams at all of us. Dude, I'm excited we scored too, but just announce the goals - you don't have to yell at me.

If you're taking the Metro (and for the sake of your sanity, you ought to), I've discovered that instead of following the crowd and walking back to the Chinatown stop, it's worth walking over to the Judiciary Square stop and catching a train from there. That way you're not swamped in the middle of a stampede as the Phone Booth lets out.

Food is great AROUND Verizon, but inside, it's terrible.

by JmF on Nov 22, 2008 1:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, JMf. Eat before you get into the building.

Also, MarkyNarc, absolutely on the different stop, but Judiciary Square is for those taking the red line. If you come in via the yellow or green lines, walk two blocks south on 7th street to find Archives/Navy Memorial. Much saner ^^

Open thread, eh? Ok, I'll bite:

Let's have your fantasy deals re: Bouwmeester for Nylander and ____ and ____.

Make 'em count. Being simplistic here but let's have fun. Flame away.

Sharks Page interviews Leonsis on technology and media at http://sharkspage.com/

Some things we've heard before but a good read to pass the time until the game and to avoid the cold.

At the risk of being gratuitous or silly - think the ice would still suck in the VC if we were playing there tonight? Never mind the cold outside XD

The Caps need a real goalie. I bet they could get a nice trade for Niittymaki

The Caps announcer is amazing. WTF are you people talking about?!

"Here are your Washingtonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn CAPITALS!"

@ anonymous and Ben

Is the sky falling yet?

Christ, lay off. Half the damn team's hurt, they've played 3 games in 4 days, on the West Coast, against the best team in the league.

But you're not reading this now because you're selling your Ovechkin jersey and taking down your Caps flag.

brutal.

another trade mark offensive zone hooking/holding penalty by Nylander again.

Morrison....yeah.

they'll recover.

by NS on Nov 23, 2008 9:03 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

While I thought the first period was great in the offensive zone, at NO time did we play good defense. I see no way to blame that one injuries, since only Green is injured on that side. They were also more rested than in L.A. We gave up 12 goals in two games, or if you wish, 10 excluding empty nets (but one of those was given up while 6 on 4). We cannot be an elite team with one scoring line and no defense. We simply can't. That doesn't mean I advocate separating Semin and Ovie, I'm arguing that our defense is a great liability right now.

by B8ovin on Nov 23, 2008 11:12 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

If anything, last night proved to me that we certainly didn't overpay for Green.

Realize you can't blame the entire meltdown on his absence alone, but still...

by dcrock on Nov 23, 2008 11:19 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I'm curious as to how Erskine and Green have been the scapegoats for the defense this year so far.

by Ogre on Nov 23, 2008 1:13 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That was Ovy's worst game as a Cap.

by Anonymous on Nov 23, 2008 3:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That game was utterly attrocious and a great indicator as t why Morrisonn needs to never be given a sweater ever again. Hopefully his absolutely terrible play is obvious now to most people. Maybe I'm optimistic, though.

Either way, this entire road trip has been a joke, this schedule is brutal. The sharks hadn't played for how many damn days?
