Sigh. As if hockey matters at a time like this: Brian Burke is once again among us. He is great. Let us analyze his haircut. (At least until they drop the puck.)

Nylander might want to shoot there…

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 7:12 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He can’t shoot. He has the Swedish disease.

by Old Bob on Nov 29, 2008 10:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Is it just me, or is this CSN+ picture poopy?

Apparently Michael Nylander may only want 14 minutes TOI.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:13 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

CSN+ blows, even by standard def standards.

Broadcasting hockey in standard def is a crime against humanity.

Yes, we should know five things before we find out about the penalty. Stoopid TV producers.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Astonishingly stupid, Eric Fehr.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:17 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Terrible (legit) giveaway by Alzner.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 7:19 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Did Alzner forget it was 4-on-4? What was that?! The Caps should probably be behind here. Like, 2-0.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:19 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If a CBJ defenseman was standing at the point with a bag of groceries, he’d throw it at the net.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:24 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They're fat and happy in C'bus!

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 7:25 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes, please disregard what I said about CBJ defensemen, groceries and the net.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:32 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Soft boards there in CBJ.

And will CSN cut it with the production elements and just tell us about the hockey game? K thx bye

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:30 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BJ1 has the wanders.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:31 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just you and me tonight, Tyler?

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 7:32 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess so. Is it because not everyone has CSN+? Or do people wait until intermission/etc. for ‘live boards?’

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:34 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Get with the program and reply to comments in the appropriate thread, man!

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

Methinks someone told 19 to shoot the puck more.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:37 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Apparently Nyls think he needs to compact the ice with his stick blade.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

92’s definitely a stick tapper.

I think if you do that too much, you go blind.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 7:46 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

To whom it may concern

I see that the Washington Capitals have given up 15 shots int he first period. I am crying inside.

Signed,

Kyle McLaren

P.S. Outside too.

ugh, i hate when they relegate us to CSN+, my stupid cable provider doesnt get it so i have to listen on the radio online.

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:01 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The picture quality is better on your radio. (And you’re spared the endless Brian Burke cutaways on HNIC.)

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:02 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

dont need no stinkin pictures! i can tell we’ve come out flat from here.

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:05 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Alzner was holding that left hand pretty gingerly there.

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

could that have been caused by bad ice? sarcasm

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

FWIW, Grapes was in rare (xenophobic) form on HNIC tonight. Catch it in the AM on cbc.ca.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:08 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

21 is talking to himself. And not kindly.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:10 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

was in all alone on Mason. F and now a Hummers PP

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:11 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BJs = Hummers, I’d think

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:13 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Blue Jackets, BJ’s, Hummer’s you understand the progression.

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:14 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes, I’m dialing myself back to fourth grade now.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:14 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BJ1 with a beaut on Huselius, and then another. He’s keeping the Caps in this.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:14 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

BJ1 is playing above his crease more than I remember in his recent outings. It’s working.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:15 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

A good team would be absolutely burying the Caps right now.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

speaking of burying, Detroits getting buried by Boston 3-0 2nd period

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:17 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And as soon as I post that…. Alzner on the ice.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:17 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Is anyone else watching this game on Center Ice? The CBJ announcers have made just a ton of gaffes tonight. We’re talking non-women Comcast Sports Net level errors.

And congrats on the move, JP.

by RickyRage on Nov 29, 2008 8:24 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It’s not blacked out? Are you outside DC?

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:24 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Thx – things are finally starting to feel like home around here.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:35 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This Caps bunch looks 3-in-4-nights flat. Of course, CBJ has played 3-in-4 too, so…

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:26 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

For example, they gave the credit for Bradley’s hit on Russell to Laich… 3 times

by RickyRage on Nov 29, 2008 8:31 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And not to beat a dead horse here, but the camera work is also leaving a lot to be desired. I missed the Nash goal, even on replays.

by RickyRage on Nov 29, 2008 8:32 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Alright, I go to put the baby to bed and C’bus scored. Saw the replay – hell of a shot that may have ramped off Backstrom’s stick, eh? What was Nick doing back on that anyway?

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:31 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Alzner pinched, which was OK. He got caught down low trying to play a body below the CBJ net… which was not.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:32 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And CraigL keeps saying the puck may have gone off of 19’s stick, but I don’t see it.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:33 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mason is just on right now, now we know how the Habs fans felt last night.

by CapitalsKremlin on Nov 29, 2008 8:32 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Juice and Alzner are minus-two apiece.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:35 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

A late PPG would be enormous.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:35 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

we cant go 0-4 on the pp right now, need to get back into this.

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:36 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ovi looks tired and a little frustrated.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:37 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed. 9:19 TOI in the first, 6:41 in the second.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:39 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They can come back

But they are going to have to score an ugly goal…just crash the net and shove the puck under Mason. Columbus is really choking the life out of them.

by DebCapsFan on Nov 29, 2008 8:37 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

we really could use his 2 goals hes good for vs C’bus.

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Alright, I’m about to give up on the giveaway and takeaway stats – the Caps have 2 giveaways and 1 takeaway through two. More to the point, Alzner has 0 giveaways, despite his obvious horrible attempted cross-ice pass on a first period 4-on-4 that led to a CBJ break.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 8:39 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah and the CBJ hit stats are…. amusing.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:41 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

from the radio it sounded like Backstrom had 2 takeaways in one sequence…

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:42 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What’s the game to watch at intermission? Buffalo/Montreal?

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

Especially if you like seeing cuts to Brian Burke at every whistle.

whats the odds on a Brashear/Boll scrap in the 3rd?

by DonCaps819 on Nov 29, 2008 8:44 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Can someone explain the glass slapping phenomenon to me? I just don’t get it.

by RickyRage on Nov 29, 2008 8:56 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why do people feel the need to hit the glass?

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:57 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You know, Craig’s point about a revved-up, emotional (Go Bears!) night taking something out of WSH last night rings true.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 8:59 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Another similarity between last night and tonight: Caps aren’t getting much puck possession time.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 9:05 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So – am I the only one that hasn’t seen Alzner this period?

by Ames on Nov 29, 2008 9:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You’re right. He hasn’t played in the third.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 9:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yup

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 9:08 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I get the feeling once the Caps put one in, then things will click. Too bad half the period is gone.

by CapitalsKremlin on Nov 29, 2008 9:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

This is only 92’s third shift of the period.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 9:07 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Playoffs

…Will be awfully short if they keep up this kind of play on the road.

by wittcap79 on Nov 29, 2008 9:08 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

LMAO, one of, if not THE, greatest press conference of all time.

by wittcap79 on Nov 29, 2008 9:18 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You mean for Hershey, because all their D will be with WSH? (I mean, a little perspective…. )

Johnny’s poke check didn’t quite work on that one.

Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world

by J.P. on Nov 29, 2008 9:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It was either going to be a goal or a PS.

by TylerG on Nov 29, 2008 9:17 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not necessarily – if Johnny saved it, it could have been just a minor for hooking if the refs had ruled that Nash wasn’t denied a reasonable scoring opportunity.

So this season we’ve had injuries to:
1) Morisonn
2) Erskine
3) Green
4) Schultz
4.5) Fed
5) Alzner now

Pretty amazing.

The whole league is tired.

The whole league with the exception of the west coast clubs, is exhausted. Those teams have all gone through their five day off period..

almost all the home teams are winning tonight.

Caps need some time off.

I wonder how many more days (weeks?) all these guys who might be able to play last weekend will be out.
