Welcome To Japers' Rink
To everyone who has followed us over from our old digs of nearly three-and-a-half years, and to those who are checking us out for the first time, welcome to the latest incarnation of Japers' Rink.
There are two things we want to mention in this post, then we'll get back to talking hockey; the first is what to expect from the new site. For those of you familiar with the previous site, the changes are for the better - the coverage will be similar, but even deeper. We'll still be slicing and dicing up Washington Capitals hockey and the rest of the NHL, and your "go to" features from the old site (like the "What We're Reading" sidebar) have made the transition to the new site. But now we've got FanPosts and FanShots (more on those in a minute) to bring everyone a little closer to the blogging action. So plan to wear out that F5 key - you'll never want to leave the site.
The second thing we wanted to talk about is why we moved from our cozy little corner of the internet to SB Nation. To begin with, we believe in the model (cool three years ago, still cool now), we believe in the people running it and the people behind it, and we believe in the bloggers writing it.
But more to the point, we made this move because it facilitates the discussion and interaction we've always tried to cultivate in our little online community - it's about you as much as it's about us. The technology, tools and usability here at SB Nation are phenomenal and getting better all the time, and once you all start to take full advantage of everything the site has to offer, well, like I said - you'll never want to leave except to follow the occasional link.
So thanks for stopping by and we hope you stay as long as you want (and pay no mind as we tweak a few things here and there to get this baby purrin' the way we want it). Lastly, special thanks go out to Trei, Tyler, Michael, Jon and Jim and the other folks that made this happen behind the scenes.
Now back to your regularly scheduled hockey blogging...

WOOO-HOOO!
Welcome to the neighbourhood and thanks for the kind words. I can’t believe that you finally launched. I was going to explode.
I can’t believe that you got your blogspot archives though. I am jealous.

JP, Congrats on your move to SB Nation. It’s a great network and I can’t think of a Capitals blogger more deserving or someone I’d rather have be representing the Caps and their blogging community than you.
There was only ever one choice. There was actually a poll that James passed around wondering who was going to be the Caps’ blogger that was pretty funny to read while JP was in discussions with SBN.

Congrats

Cheers!

Looks good
The old site (while scrolling) lagged my screen in firefox – looked brutal.
This one, scrolls great! WTG!

Oh, RSS?
http://www.japersrink.com/rss/
The RSS link (as I post this) appears busted – any word – can’t go too long without my JR fix.
The fanpost/shots rss works fine.

New Site Looks Good
Congratulations to my formerly adopted Capitals brethren bloggers.
Try to say that five times fast.

change
To paraphrase the esteemed philosopher Lou Grant, “You’ve changed. I hate change”. So was it something we said that made you leave? I liked the old site, it was a kind of written comfort food for cold mornings. I also liked that the type was bigger. Now I have to go and meet new people. It’s kind of like high school, only I’m a lot older. Oh well, the new site does look like it has a lot of new gadgets that will allow me to kill another hour or two at work and I’m all for that. And as another well known philosopher (some guy named Confucius) once said:“Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change.”
hi...

Nice work, JP. Looks like a fairly seamless platform switch.

the SBN tech guys are top notch.
You can say that again! And again, and again… On the rare occasions something goes amiss, they’re on it before you know it.
Welcome to you and all JR followers. I promise you’re gonna like it here, or my name ain’t Nathan Arizona.
SBN now has a NY Islanders blog at LighthouseHockey.com.

Yeah
Or you’ll hit gmail and read about problems that you never even had time to notice because they’re already fixed.

Welcome to SBN, J.P.!
It’s an honor to have you here. And even though I’m a huge Devils fan, I always stop to watch the Caps when they’re on TV because of Ovechkin.

Hooray for SB Nation
As a long-time SB Nation user and regular on the old site (as Jason), I’m thrilled that you’re on SB Nation. For the uninitiated, the major benefits: threaded comments, auto-updating comments (makes game open threads MUCH better), fanposts, and easy access to stats etc.
Congrats JP!
Hey JP, welcome aboard!

Hmm
On the main blogroll for SB Nation, the Caps are listed under the Atlantic Division section. Hard to believe there isn’t a thriving Southeast division section!
We’re working on it. :-)
We’ll have at least two more Southeast sites in the next few weeks.

Sweet
I like that SB Nation is recruiting top blogs. What a great site.
Mostly it just made me sad that the Caps aren’t in the Atlantic anymore.

You’re not alone, man. That listing mistake was pleasing to the eye. I still have to remind myself the Caps aren’t in a six-team Patrick. (Obviously, I didn’t take realignment and the generic renaming of divisions well. But hey, these things take time.)

Question
I’m working on a post for my own blog about the Leafs’ GM decision making process. One of the names that came to my mind was George McPhee – anybody know what his contract status is with the Caps?
And no, I don’t have any official connection to the Leafs, so I’m not involved in any poaching – I’m just wondering who the other candidates for the job are at this point.

For the Leafs? They’ve already found their candidate!
They’ve also apparently tried to talk to Jim Rutherford, Doug Wilson and Ken Holland, among others.

I know, Burke is a done deal, but...
I’m just wondering who the other possibles were. Do you know McPhee’s status, James?

I have never heard his name in relation to the Leafs job, for one thing. I don’t know how long he’s under contract, no, but I bet J.P. does.

Thanks. Not surprisingly (since I’m just a guy in my house, not haunting the rinks where stuff happens) I never heard his name either; it just seemed to me that GMGM was one of the few current NHL execs who had presided over a teardown/rebuild job like the one the Leafs are going through now. Thanks for the response, I’ll see if I can get JP’s help…

Congratulations on the move and good luck in your new home! SBN is becoming quite the hockey blogger hangout. Nice work by all.

Well done!
JP, soemthing must be in the air what with all the site revamps :) Kudos on joining SBN, and I really like the new site. I’ve already updated all my links to reflect your new site and RSS feed. I’ve actually never been on SBN before, so not it looks like I have another time-waster as I check out all the neat features and other blogs. Thanks, JP.

Bravo! Your Stone Roses ref a week or so ago sold me. As they say on the radio, long-time listener, first-time caller….
Fast change -
This is a lot of change a lot of fast. There’s a lot going on, where before it was simple. Hopefully this works. Also, I liked not having to register for anything to comment on your blog. Hopefully i get used to this.
I will miss simplicity though.
Welcome JP
Very happy to have you here at SB Nation. I am a long time fan of your blog despite my not being a Caps fan.

Welcome to SBN
Congratulations on joining the network, JP. I can already tell you’re acclimating yourselves to the new platform faster than I am, which is excellent. Regardless, welcome!
P.S. I hope the Capitals have learned the irony of losing a high scoring game to the Devils.
Once again, thanks all. I know that change can be tough, but hopefully this one doesn’t take too long to get used to.
