The 1988-89 Washington Capitals were flat-out stacked. Their opening night roster featured four future Hall of Famers (including a trio on the blueline), a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, and, by the time the season ended, three 40-goal scorers.

The team won the Patrick Division title (you've seen the banner at the VC), only to be bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Flyers, so the video below (reminiscent of the great Flames vid that made the rounds not too long ago) may be only the second biggest embarrassment of that season.
